HEX-GLOSS Liquid Lamination
Available in Utility and Vehicle Grade. (In 2L or 5L)
Why
use Liquid Laminates?
HEX-GLOSS Liquid Laminates protect digitally produced images from
abrasion, water, and premature fading while maintaining the flexibility
and elasticity of the media. They also “pop” the
colours, giving a wet look to the print. While providing these
features, HEX-GLOSS also maintains a lower cost per square meter in
comparison to film laminates
How do
I know which laminate to use?
HEX-GLOSS UTLITY GRADE will satisfy most requirements. For vehicle
graphics, HEXGLOSS VEHICLE GRADE is recommended as it more flexible and
more resistant to chemicals.
How do
I apply HEX-GLOSS?
HEX-GLOSS can be applied with a high-density foam roller, paint pad
applicators, spray gun or an automatic liquid laminator. Liquid
laminates should ideally be applied before application.
When
do I apply HEX-GLOSS?
HEX-GLOSS must only be applied at least 12 hours after printing. This
is particularly necessary when coating eco and light solvent inks and
specifically prints done on the Mimaki JV5.
How
long does HEX-GLOSS take to dry?
HEX-GLOSS takes about 30-60 minutes to touch dry. Prints coated with
HEX-GLOSS should only be handled after 24 -48 hours hours. Drying and
curing can be accelerated with infrared dryers.
What
mileage to you get from HEX-GLOSS?
On average you should get between 12-15 sqm per liter when using a
roller and approx 15-20 sqm when using automatic coaters. Spraying is
the least economical.
Yield can also be affected by watering down, evaporation, relative
humidity and most significantly, how porous the media being coated
is.
What
is the life expectancy for prints coated with HEX-GLOSS?
Protecting the print HEX-GLOSS will always increase the life of the
prints. From experience protective coatings increases the print life by
at least 50%. Absolute longevity depends on many variables including
application and quality of the ink and media.
Is
HEX-GLOSS ready to use?
HEX-GLOSS is supplied ready to use. In some cases e.g. for spraying,
small amounts of distilled water up to a maximum of 5% may be added.
Overreducing will affect flow and drying characteristics of the coating.
How do
I get rid of bubbling when applying with a roller?
HEX-GLOSS contains anti-foaming agents; however excessive rolling and
pressure will load the surface with air that may result in the varnish
layer containing some entrapped air bubbles. Paint pad applicators are
good a good option as they minimise the amount of air bubbles.
Can I
apply application tape over the coated prints?
Generally application tape can be used
over the coated prints. It is however important that the coating is
fully cured. It is possible that some application tapes will pull the
coating off some inks so it advisable to do a test on small area.
It
is absolutely necessary to perform your own tests under local
conditions with regards to the intended purpose prior to staring the
job.
